Thanks for dropping by Karen! You are right , it is lovely and yes I am very happy. I am fortunate enough to be able to have the best of both worlds, i can get to the city in 2 -3 hours, be it Stockholm or London. My goats help to make my life here in the Swedish countryside so blissful. We have also met some really lovely people here in our little corner of Sweden. Welcome back Karen!

When my wife and I were young we had a half acre of land and just got the goats because they were beautiful and we wanted to have them around us. We then moved somewhere else and could not take the goats with us. That was many years ago but we still adore goats who are always silly and beautiful.

It sounds like you had a lovely experience with your goats. I’m glad. I understand life changes, sometimes you have to make compromises and let some things go. Sorry it was your goats , but guess what, you never know they may come back into your lives once again. In the meanwhile I hope you continue to enjoy my goat tales and adventures! They are beautiful and silly and at times frustrating stubborn creatures that I love very much.

It is always fun to see and read about parts of the world I may never visit. I lived for many years in a cold climate, for some of that time I heated the house with wood, it is a lot of work. I think I will enjoy following your blog.

I am secretly looking out my windows hoping to see the first snow flakes. My husband would think I had lost my mind. I think he has had enough of Swedish winters. Just way too much snow to plow. I try to lend a hand but he refuses my help, so I say don’t shovel, we can just make our paths. Oh well, the first snow flakes will fall soon enough. It’s beautiful here at Gullringstorp.

I raise goats in Florida, USA and I noticed all the fresh veggies you are feeding. Would you mind sharing your feeding regimen? Your goats are beautiful and I would love to know what their diet consist of. Thank you!

Oh my, your goats are living in the sunshine state. I wonder if they know just how lucky they are. They must have loads of outdoor time where my goats are in most of our winter.
My goats get as much hay as they want and a nice pile of straw twice a day. We don’t have any goat formulated grain available here in Sweden. I did my research and made both my husband and I aware of all the minerals and vitamins that a goat requires for good health. Sheep grain was lacking in many of the important minerals. After careful investigation I decided that certain brands of horse muesli worked just fine. I have never had to give any extra vitamins, minerals or boluses. We mix the grains with oats supplied by a local farmer.
All my adults get a scoop of this mixture twice a day. they also get treats maybe twice a week of a mixture of mixed chopped greens and fruits.
During spring and summer and autumn months, our goats are out in the enclosure. Spring and summer sun allows our goats to be out till near 10 pm. Those are great days for us and them. They graze, but are always given hay and straw and often big branches to forage on.
Winter months here in Sweden are a real challenge. Since our gang can’t get into the enclosure due to the amount of snow, they have all their meals indoors. I increase the grain, just a bit more in each container, branches brought in to each box and a lot more of the greens and fruit bowl. They also get real treats of my homemade goat treats.
There is also a mineral block kin each box.
When we have babies, they are not allowed to have the grains for some time. They can eat and handle a small amount of crushed oats. Our babies also get their own tiny chopped veggie/fruit bowls. I make sure they have their tiny pieces because mommy’s are just too large.

ummm….what an unbelievable page and encounter….wow. haha. i had typed in diana damrau to do more research, as she was on npr wnyc radio today, and i too had attended the rigoletto in a cinema. spectacular, right? but anyway, when it landed me on your page, i was shocked….and enchanted, as i adore seeing baby goats…….actually, ANY animals!
then, after scrolling thru your photos here—- i see—what to my wondering eyes should appear, but….a “long beach island, new jersey” tshirt!!! are you kidding?! where are you from? are you a jersey girl, gone swedish? pleeeeeeeeeez write me back! thanks! sharon

Hi from Toulouse, France! Awesome blog! I’m a “cappy”(January capriconr!) and I love goats, too! I’m serious. Last year in Key West, Florida I met a Dutch couple who lived on their boat with their petgoat, called Jacky! So sweet & cute! 🙂 Goat cheese is very popular here and we have it every day on our cheese plateau among other kinds and with red Bordeaux wine, of course! Bon appétit & cheers! 🙂

So nice to hear from France and from a fellow goat lover. Have you or do you have goats? If so which breed. So glad you like my blog. That sounds so charming to have a goat as a pet on a boat. I do have an issue with this however. Anyone who knows goats knows that they are social animals and need other goats to be happy. No doubt this couple love their pet goat but this goat would be much happier with another goat for a friend and the couple to love. If you have contact with this couple, could you please let them know that this is important for a goat. I don’t know about having a single sheep, pig, chicken or any other barn animal, but I do know about goats.
Goat cheese is wonderful , I agree and can picture you enjoying it with a fine Bordeaux. Here at Gullringstorp, we have not tried to make cheese, I hope to later. I was hoping to receive some advice on Pygmy goat enclosures, if possible
I am currently studying zoological conservation. I am designing a Pygmy goat enclosure for an assignment (which is due in on Wednesday 22nd).
I was hoping to plant some trees for shade etc and was wandering which type of trees would be O.K to use? Also whether it is a good idea to have weeds and bushes growing on the outside? or whether they would over indulge on this?
I have also heard that they like swimming. Although I wouldn’t be able to provide a big pool, I was wandering whether a shallow pool of water would be beneficial? This would be changed daily if necessary.
I would be very grateful for any advice or guidance

How interesting. Where are you writing from?
I can not speak on the water component of your intended enclosure, but I can add some info from my own experience.
1. At least 7 electrical cords for fencing at least 5 feet high. They can and do leap.
2. All my goats need to climb on stones and boulders to keep their hoofs in shape.
3. Pygmy goats especially love to climb so some kind of structure is good.
4. Hay racks and removable water buckets
5. Always important for all goats, and outdoor enclosure to be able to get out of bad weather
6. good pasture is very important for natural grazing.
