Day 2 In The New Enclosure And See What The Girls Are Up To
The boys were once again led into the enclosure and straight on through the gate to the new enclosure . Once there, every little buck got down to the serious business of eating yummy grass:

The boys make their way through the gate to the other side. I couldn’t understand what the move was all about, then I saw it. They all went to the cool water buckets and returned to the new enclosure
The girls really enjoy morning and the morning sunshine:

Goats know when they need a to add more minerals to their diets, so they eat dirt. So all the ladies found some dirt and nibbled some

Huckleberry with Rose. I know they look related, but they are not. Huckleberry is Poppy’s son. Rose is Pumpkin’s 3 yr. old daughter
Everyone enjoys a beautiful day . today is a really beautiful day at Gullringstorp!
Happy Easter Sunday and a Beautiful Spring Day !
We hope everyone is having a lovely Easter ! We actually have a beautiful Spring day here at Gullringstorp!! No wind, rain or snow!! A great day for the goats to come out. The boys can even come out today.

We have 7 little bucks but this morning we decided to place a leash on only two and hope the others would follow. Poor little Toby was the only one who fell far behind the others. He seemed to be a bit afraid. He will be back on a leash until he gets used to going out once again.

Once I helped Toby to catch up, they all followed and walked into the enclosure like little gentlemen

It’s’ not always so easy to take the collars and leashes off when the boys are so happy to be in the enclosure

Here are my youngest boys; Pip, Winston, Toby (hidden, but I see his feet) and Phillip. Oh my how my baby bucklings have grown. Phillip is almost as big as his big brother Little Man

I am so happy that both the girls and the boys have a wonderful deep shelter where they can go if they are not happy with the weather
After Milk Stand training, the ladies were out in the enclosure:

Our ladies were happy being outside again. Pumpkin enjoys a relaxing nap in the sun while the little Pygmy girls play in the bench in the distance
Wishing everyone a lovely and Happy Easter Sunday!
Toby, Before and After Photos
I have never done a before and after of any of our goats. Just thought I would start with one of my cutest, before and after:
Toby is Nanna’s first baby born here at Gullringstorp. Toby was born May 12, 20102:

Toby and Nanna were lucky because Leif made them a special play yard in the rear of the stable. They just walked out of their home and out the door into the yard for fresh air and fun

Toby finally got big enough to join the other goats in the large enclosure. He was still with Nanna and nursing
Our little Toby has grown into a real handsome buck that has an uncanny similarity to Elvis. Look at that hair-do, will you:
Our Little Herd in the Enclosure as Hilda Goes into Labor
Well, we got Hilda back into her clean box just in time for her to have a clean and comfortable labor. She was brought back into her box around 2 pm while the others remained in the enclosure. Hilda’s absence was noticed immediately. It took some time before all the goats, boys included, to resume their activities of eating grass, playing and relaxing.

Hilda’s grown son is so very handsome. I have truly enjoyed watching him become the strong, yet gentle buck that he is today

Nanna is adjusting to having her little boy Toby moved top the boy’s enclosure during the day. She gets her baby back after he has spent some time in the boy’s box after they are brought back in, to enjoy, guess what, more hay! Nanna has to find her place in the herd again, because she is not tending a baby so the dynamics are a bit different. She is doing well, not perfect, but as well as can be expected.

Nanna is alone much of the time and I feel bad for her. I give her special attention as she makes the transition and finds herself back in the fold of the herd
Everyone eventually resumed their normal activities while Hilda was busy at her job at hand.
I wonder if they knew?
Silly question, of course they did!
Welcome back for Updates From the Nursery at Gullringstorp…
New Mothers and Babies Visit the Large Enclosure for the First Time, August 3, 2012!
The day began really badly for us here at Gullringstorp! We had every intention to bring out our new mothers and babies today. It was overcast, cold and threatened rain. Not a good first day to be in the large enclosure. So, disappointed, I fed every one in their box and just opened doors. The morning was just one big rain threat.
The sun finally came out and so did our little gang of new mommies and babies and a couple of pals. Ivy would never have gone into the enclosure without her pals Petunia and Iris so they were allowed to join the new families.
Here is the first day out in t he enclosure for Toby, Fiona Pip and Surprise and their mothers:

Nanna and her son Toby made it into the enclosure. Look at Toby’s wonderment of the large space before him!

Here is Keriana ( Frida’s daughter) with her daughter following, Fiona and Little Ivy with her tiny baby Little Surprise

Just before bravely leaving my babies out I looked and saw everyone relaxing. Here are Iris and Petunia who were the only non-mothers allowed in the enclosure. It was beautiful to see.

Nanna and Toby were more interested in the new hay supply than taking a rest. They did rest later, however.
We were only able to leave the new mothers and babies after each baby had been introduced to the electric fence. these babies are very close to their mothers so we had no babies near the fence. Oh I forgot, Toby was the first to get a zap and boy was he a big baby after that. He didn’t want to leave mommy Nanna’s side. It was my job to capture each remaining baby and my husband took them to the fence and they each got a zap on the nose. This way we could leave them comfortably with the knowledge that the babies wouldn’t be silly and try to get through the fence .
For a first day out in the large enclosure, it really went far better than expected. Every goat adult and baby alike were truly happy and excited to be in the large space. They had out grown both baby yards. Now we must decide when to introduce the other members of the herd who were now in the play yards, temporarily.
Welcome back for some video action of the first day’s adventures.
Updates from the Nursery at Gullringstorp
I’m still trying to play catch up from my time away from posting. Here are some updates of two of our four new babies:
Keriana’s little Fiona:
Gullringstorp herd update:
We have had touchy weather with showers throughout the days lately, but our herd has been out in the enclosure. Seems like they forget everything when they are out and about, running, playing, eating grass and relaxing in the sun.
The only problem I have is when the weather is too bad for the goats to go out and I let them out in the corridor of the stable. this is when Pansy and Poppy really miss their mommy Frida. They seem to go on a search from box to box for Frida. It really is so sad to witness this. I try to keep them occupied with goodies or something else to keep their mind off the loss of their mother. Everything I do works , only on a temporary basis. I do sit with them everyday and give them extra love and even some fresh strawberries from our garden. They do seem to appreciate the extra attention.
We are all healing, slowly…

I thought I would try out my video functin on my phone and was pleased with the results. I think I will try turning my phone the other way next time.
