Our Little Herd in the Enclosure as Hilda Goes into Labor

Well, we got Hilda back into her clean box just in time for her to have a clean and comfortable labor. She was brought back into her box around 2 pm while the others remained in the enclosure. Hilda’s absence was noticed immediately. It took some time before all the goats, boys included, to resume their activities of eating grass, playing and relaxing.

She gets her baby back after he has spent some time in the boy’s box after they are brought back in, to enjoy, guess what, more hay! Nanna has to find her place in the herd again, because she is not tending a baby so the dynamics are a bit different. She is doing well, not perfect, but as well as can be expected.

Summer Updates From Gullringstorp

We have had the new mothers and the babies out in the large enclosure with wonderful success. It was now time to integrate the entire herd in the enclosure at once. I was just a bit anxious about Pumpkin. She has undergone a drastic personality change since she gave birth last summer. It wasn’t the birth, no, that went quite well. I believe it was the loss of one of her babies early on, Miracle. She has been a big grump ever since and fuses with every goat, when given the opportunity.

Pumpkin has been a bit of a problem , but overall, it went splendidly!

Pumpkin had to be "caught as she ran amok when she entered the enclosure. She ran out and her daughter Rose followed

It was a lovely day and a lovely sight to have all the goats out of the stable. I spent as much time as I could out with our little herd watching and listening. The sounds are so delightful and you never know what you will witness. Goats are so charming and beguiling and I always hate to be away from our goats here at Gullringstorp. I just hate to miss anything.

For the very first time in a very long time, I walked the corridor of our stable and it was so silent. There were no goats inside. they were all happily playing in the late summer sun at Gullringstorp. Talk about an empty nest!

We are keeping a close eye on Hilda who is due in the next 2 weeks. We will, of corse keep you updated. For now she is round, a bit slow and is doing well on the milk stand and enjoys going out, even when i am not sure she should be out. tis will be Hilda’s second delivery, here at Gullringstorp.
