US Northeast Snow Storm vs Swedish Winter
We are keeping everyone in the Northeast in our thoughts today as you endure this winter storm. We hope everyone stays safe and warm.
We here at Gullringstorp are in the midst of winter, once again. Here in Sweden, we are used to the snow. We have the infrastructure to handle great amounts of snow. Our plows are always at the ready and everyone is prepared with a variety of shovels and warm gloves etc. Even our airports function well during winter storms. Nothing stops in Sweden.
All of us who live in the countryside with animals, learn how to survive the winter and care for our animals. We know how to keep hens warm and water from freezing and keep animals comfortable.
This morning as it snowed I went for a walk with my naughty but sweet Nanna out for a walk . She hesitated at first then she really seemed to enjoy it as she walked me.

My husband was out shoveling when he made a discovery and came in to get me. I grabbed my camera and in the hedge we found something beautiful:

He was so still but every now and again , his ears flicked
So beautiful…

I just think that they really make a bigger deal out it than need be. It’s only a problem because the cities and towns just aren’t prepared and why aren’t they, by now. We are all experiencing extreme climate changes and we all need to be prepared for what ever comes. Easterners are hearty folks and can handle anything, but that’s not the issue. They shouldn’t have to handle power outages etc. They need to be protected from such things affected by heavy snowfall. Just my opinion. I still wish them all well and safety.

This storm is harder, I think,because there are still so many area that had been affected by the Huricane (Sandy) last fall. They are still rebuilding and recovering. Also, with any big city there is the issue of WHERE to put the snow. As for power outages, well, that can happen because of the weight of the snow on the lines. I don’t think that can be helped. It is different for people in the country, there are a lot of places for us to put the snow and we are used to it.

You are so right!!! What the heck was I thinking. You are so right. How could I have forgotten about Sandy. Please forgive me. Thank you for snapping me back to a reality I seemed to have blocked out. You are right about people in the countryside, we are a bit used to it and yes we have places to put it. Oh now I feel embarrassed.

Yes the snow just keeps falling, sometimes slow and gentle and sometimes with a fury. What a delightful surprise to see that hare, We have no wild rabbits or bunnies in Sweden.
