Frida & Emil, our Rent-A-Buck ; 1 Year Later
It was almost exactly one year to the day when Emil first came to Gullringstorp as our Rent-A-Buck. When Emil arrived this time last year, there was snow on the ground. This year it was just as cold but with no snow.
We are so happy to have Emil back because not only is he a gentle giant and charming, but he makes the most beautiful babies with our ladies!
Emil has already bred Hilda this month, today is Frida’s turn, actually her second time. They were together last evening and I didn’t have my camera in the stable. I assumed the deed was done because of the classic arching of Frida’s back and all. But, this morning, she was still yelling and at her door, ready to come out.
Like all single mothers, it’s not easy to find a place to be alone with your date. With two girls in with Frida in her box, that was not the place for her to have her rendezvous with Emil. We had to use Nanna’s box, again. It works out well because her box is free while she is on the Milk Stand having either her breakfast or her dinner.
Last night, I sensed Frida’s anxiety as she could hear her babies yelling through the closed stable doors. She seemed not to be able to really concentrate on the task at hand. I thought she was done as she did the arching back thing that is supposed to be confirmation of the deed being complete.
This morning, Frida seemed more in tuned to what was going on and the girl’s yelling didn’t seem to affect her at all, I don’t think.
Frida has been bred twice now and I hope that this was it. If it wasn’t she is welcome to join Emil again this evening for a third rendezvous. Sometimes the third time is a charm!
