Pedicures and New Earrings at Gullringstorp
Foot trimming time has come around again! Time for all my ladies and fellows to have a wonderful pedicure. Several of my ladies were in real need of this pampering since they had been in their boxes on straw for some time since giving birth during the late summer. My other goats were in need due to the fact we don’t have a very rocky area for them to play in. A natural rocky outcrop would be a natural pedicure for my goats. If I could change just one thing about Gullringstorp, that would be it, to have a rocky area for the goats to jump on, on a regular basis to help keep their hooves in order, naturally. We don’t have that, naturally. My husband has brought a few large rocks into the enclosure. I drive my husband crazy when we are out driving somewhere and I spot a huge boulder. I always say that would go great in the goat enclosure. I can’t understand why he couldn’t ask those nice men putting in a new road and bridge near our home, if we could have some of the boulders they have uncovered. They have huge machinery and trucks and such. They could just bring me a couple. I would be in heaven. Well, that is not likely to happen so be go to the best next thing.
We have a wonderful woman who comes to Gullringstorp to give all my goats a much-needed pedicure. Eva comes with her beautiful dogs in tow, Australian sheep dogs. Eva has a large herd of sheep that she loves as much as I love my little herd of goats. She is an expert at hoof clipping. Eva was a recommendation from the farm where we got Hilda and Alika and she has been most valuable to us and our goats. We just love her!
Those of you who have goats and are accustomed to having your goats’ hooves done or if you do them yourself, you may find our way of doing this a bit unusual. We have done this pedicure on the milking stand with some success but this way that Eva has may look a bit undignified for our ladies, but it works and works well. This is known as the “sheep hold”.
This is Eva’s sheep hold and it works well on goats also.
All the goats that got pedicures ; Keriana, Alika, Baby Boy, Balder, Flynn, Nanna, Nakoa, Chiyoko, Pumpkin, Frida and Hilda.
All the goats that got new earrings ; Keriana, Alika, Flynn, Nakoa, Chiyoko, Pumpkin, Frida and Hilda.
All the babies; Rose, Poppy, Pansy, Peanut and Little Man got their earrings, but they were not in need of pedicures yet.
Iris, Petunia and Iris already had their earrings and did not need pedicures yet.
There was a bit of noise in the stable and resistance, but thanks to Eva who knew exactly what to expect and how to handle my goats, this was a quick and efficient task well done. What a wonderful feeling for me to know all my girls and boys are done and just fine.
As we inch our way toward winter there is much to be done at Gullringstorp and this task is done!
THANK YOU EVA FOR THE PEDICURES AND THANK YOU DEAR HUSBAND FOR THE NEW EARRINGS!
