Updates from Gullringstorp !
Everyone is doing exceptionally well. I am proud to report, all the mothers and babies are well and happy!! We have had a busy time around Gullringstorp preparing for the coming winter. There is always much to be done. Keeping the lawns low, preparing the pond and the fish and the pumps for the cold weather that’s on its way. My husband is very busy keeping up with all that needs attention. We will have to start the heat in the chicken house and maybe even start the heat in the stable for the goats. The temperatures have dropped considerably over this past week and Winter is in the air. Our Spring and Summer are all too short as is our Autumn. They all seem to blend together, if you are not watching.
I can see some of the leaves on the trees around the property starting to change color. I know that all in one day, they will become the most beautiful shades of yellow, orange and red. Then, as if in a blink of the eye, they will be gone and all the hedges, trees and some bushes will be without leaves.
The wild geese and other birds who need to leave are on their way, already. The cold snap in the air is just what they need to pack up and head for warmer climates.
My little herd is being prepared for the winter. We have stockpiled tons of straw to keep their boxes warm and cozy through the winter months. Hopefully they will all start to grow a thick coat of fur for added warmth. Don’t ask why, by my young lady Pumpkin always chooses this time of year to decide to shed. She really gives me a big job to try to understand what is happening to her. I run like a rabbit around the stable checking everyone’s fur and give everyone a Flusa treatment (against mites). Then it hits me, this is just Pumpkin. If she continues to loose fur, she will just get her jacket to wear again. It would be easier if all this came back to mind when I first see her dropping fur on her back. I guess, I am just meant to go into a tizzy for a bit and then realize who I am dealing with. Gets the heart pumping and all systems going. Thank you Pumpkin.
Just a quick season update. Now to the goats:
