Finally, A Day Out Just For Mommies and Babies
Yesterday was a beautiful crisp fall day. the wind was there, but not crazy, and the sky was just beautiful. This was the day for my little goat families to have their first time out, together, just mommies and babies, in the enclosure.
It was a bit chaotic in the beginning as babies were running like little chickens all over the enclosure and of course right through the electric fence. My heart just skipped a beat every time one tiny body went through the electric fence cords. Odd thing though, I never heard a yelp of a cry. My husband said that the power goes through in pulses and if they just happened to leap at an off pulse they were alright. We really had just two babies who were fence leapers, Rose and Peanut. When ever Peanut got scared of anything, she ran straight for and through the fence. Rose had a different story; whenever her mommy Pumpkin had a run in with Frida, she completely forgot about Rose. This left Rose to actually run like a rocket in all directions. We never knew where she would actually be headed. She made it to and through the fencing, several times. Pumpkin and Frida seemed to have old scores to settle so they were at each other quite a bit, in the beginning. Hilda stayed away from all the fuss.
Pumpkin took the lead out as she has always done
One tiny baby seems to be going the wrong direction, oops! Pumpkin keeps a close eye on her.
Like a lot of new mothers, Hilda is still carrying some baby fat
Finally, all three families are in the enclosure
Hilda with Little Man and Peanut
Peanut steps away on her own for a moment
Frida and Pumpkin during their first confrontation of the day
We are not quite sure what the "score" is that needs to be settled but there is something between these two ladies
Hilda and her babies try to stay clear of the fuss
The babies watch as Frida and Pumpkin go at each other again
With all the commotion, this baby follows the wrong mommy. Rose is fine with her mommy, Pumpkin
Looks like Pumpkin is after Frida again!

Frida stays close to Poppy and Pansy
Hilda with Little Man and Peanut eating fresh grass
Hilda with Peanut and Little Man going to the hay bucket
Hilda's little family
Rose is brave enough to venture out on her own to look at the flowers
Frida and Pumpkin are at it AGAIN !! The babies have learned to just stay out of the way.
My graceful, long necked Pumpkin. She has grown into a beautiful young lady goat.
Little Rose with those tiny legs of hers

Pumpkin teaching little Rose which grass is yummy
That must really be tasty new grass!
Frida teaching her babies to eat the fresh grass
Hilda and her babies Peanut and Little Man stay together and enjoy the fresh grass
All that play and running around makes a hungry baby. Peanut takes a "milk" break
Hilda eats while the babies look around this new big open space
Little Rose enjoys some hay with mommy Pumpkin
Why not just jump in the hay bucket?
Peanut has found a fun place to play
Poppy and Pansy found some red clover
Peanut and Little Man found somewhere to play and have fun!
Little Man and Peanut have a grass snack, together
Frida is probably calling Poppy back. There is constant chatter between the mothers and babies in the enclosure, just as in the stable
Frida in all her splendor in the sunshine. I really love her.
This is a great way to check on babies who wander off just the slightest bit
Frida takes her new babies over to the boy's enclosure to perhaps introduce them to the boys and her older son Flynn who is 1 1/2 years old
Hilda took her kids on a tour of the enclosure. Here they see the boy's enclosure for the first time. Wow!!!
Ok, time to go back to mommy
Peanut wanted just one more look at the boys
The boys were more interested in the overturned hay bucket
Little Man was less impressed by the boys than Peanut. He will of course join them when he is older, but not yet.
We couldn’t have asked for a better day for this first day out for all the mothers and babies. It was just stunning.
Just look at this new fresh grass that came after all the rain
Look at that sky. Beautiful !!!
This was a wonderful day for all of us. We had a bit of drama in the very beginning with babies ricocheting back and forth and leaping through the electric fence. Even the confrontations between Frida and Pumpkin finally calmed down.
It was just so beautiful and I felt really privileged to share this time with them.
